The first floor of a three-story office building is to be converted into an art gallery and small restaurant. The building is located in an older section of a metropolitan downtown. The existing buildings are all 85-95 years old. Emphasis is placed on the importance of selecting interior finishes that are sensitive to the function of the space and reflect the De Stijl style. When selecting the interior finishes for the Art Gallery, special attention should be made so as to not conflict with the displays. The space should be conducive to different types of art on display; wall murals, sculpture, or small objects. Lighting is also critical. It is important that the lighting levels are appropriate for the De Stijl style, as well as being sufficient and flexible and not too harsh for the art displays.
